Peace - Be Still
2024 VISION
Mark 4: 39-40
“And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’”
Have you ever wondered, in the middle of a storm in your life, where Jesus is? Maybe it has seemed as though everything is crashing in around you, and you cannot see Him or find Him. That is exactly how the disciples felt one stormy night in a boat in the middle of the sea of Galilee.
The disciples were fearful and full of great anxiety (just as you are from time to time) because the storm was vicious. They surely thought they would not survive, and Jesus was sleeping through it all! So, the disciples awakened Him.
Jesus woke up and handled the problem with the wind and the waves in few moments. Then, He only had two questions for His beloved disciples:
1. Why are you afraid? And,
2. Where was your faith?
Jesus asks us the same questions today when we automatically walk in fear instead of faith that trusts Him. In any given moment of high anxiety, fear and faith cannot coexist. Only one, or the other, rises to control. Only one, or the other dominates your behavior.
Consider the change that surely occurred in these disciples after this experience. Consider now how will you behave in your next anxious or fearful moment?
